Target 101

Okay, well, here's another in our series of couponing 101 posts. This time, I'll do my best to teach you how to get the best deals at Target.
Starting us off, we have the Target corporate coupon policy. You will probably want to print this off and carry it with you. I personally have never had a problem at my Target, but I know people who have. You are not doing anything wrong by using coupons, and they actually get paid anywhere from 2 to 16 cents per manufacturer coupon they get. So, really, you are making money for them. So carry the corporate policies, and if you run into problems, show the cashier their own corporate policy. If it still doesn't work, ask for the manager. I would also suggest keeping their corporate phone number (1-800-440-0680) with that coupon policy, so that if you are still having problems, you can call corporate while you are right there in the store. Corporate wants to know when their employees are not following the policy.
So that you don't have to go read the policy right now, I'm going to give you the basic gist of it.
-Target will accept 2 types of coupons: Target coupons and Manufacturer coupons. They will accept 1 of each for each item.
-You will not get cash back if the coupon is valued over the price of the item. They are supposed to adjust the price of the coupon down to match the item.
Now, a couple things about Target coupons.
-There are a few places to get Target coupons:
1-From the register. Every so often, a catalina will print out with your receipt. I don't have any way of letting you know when or what items to buy to get these, but they are nice bonuses.
2-From the mail. Target will periodically send out coupon booklets in the mail. These are full of coupons that you can then use with manufacturer coupons to get fabulous deals.
3-The internet. Target has coupons on their website. Now, a word about these coupons. They aren't all Target coupons. Unfortunately, there is not really any way to tell before you print them if they'll be Target coupons or Manufacturer coupons. Once you print them though, look at the top of the coupon. If it is a Target coupon it will say so. If not it will say Manufacturer coupon. The manufacturer coupon you can technically use at any store that accepts internet coupons. However, you may have some difficulties with them, because there is generally a target logo on it. If you ever have a problem, show the cashier that the top says "Manufacturer Coupon" and that there is a valid manufacturer address on the coupon.  Stores get money for every manufacturer coupon you use.  So, if the coupon has a manufacturer address listed, the store will get money back when they send the coupon in to them.

Now, price matching:
Target does price match. They call it their Low Price Promise. However, this is a bit of a convoluted policy. If you want the whole thing, you can go here to view it.
Couponing to Disney has a great, detailed post on this, but I will give you a few of the finer points here.
-In a nutshell, they state that they will match the price of an item in a competitor’s printed ad that is priced lower than at your Target store.
-The competitor's ad must be local and current, and the item has to be the identical item. The problem with the identical item bit is the ads that say 'selected varieties'. In that case, you'd be able to get the one pictured, but depending on your store, you may not get any of the other items included.
-If you have Target coupons, they must be used first. So, for example Kmart is selling Oreos for $2.00 and Target’s price is $2.50. And you want to price match and have a $1 Target Store Coupon and a Manufacturer’s coupon you want to use. Instead of just price matching and accepting both your coupons- they will take that Target coupon first and if it makes Target’s price cheaper than KMarts price (which it will- now the Oreo’s become $1.50) they will not match the price. You will still be able to use the manufacturer coupon though.
In my opinion, the best times to use the price-matching is when it is either a store that does not accept manufacturer coupons, or if there is a gift card deal involved.

And finally, clearance items!
Target has great clearance sections hidden all over the store. They are generally on the 'inside' end-caps. So, walking along main aisles, you are not very likely to see them. You can find all sorts of random things on clearance in these end-caps, and they will accept your coupons on them.  Another way to find clearance items, is right after the holidays. Yes, there will be a holiday clearance section, but if you are... say... back looking at the refrigerated cookie dough, and you see a package that looks like the holiday that just passed, you may want to go price check it because it will probably be on clearance.

So that is how Target works, as best as I can tell you. I hope that helps.

SO SO SO SO SO EXCITED!!!! (in Orem)

Edit! I was wrong on the way they are doubling the coupons, the coupons do not all double to $1. See the actual doubling amounts below.
K, so you all loved the Smith's coupon deal (with the doubling to $1) right? Guess what! Ridley's Family Market has announced (it was in the Daily Herald today)that they will be "doubling" coupons every Tuesday! I put that in quotations because they won't exactly be doubling. Any coupon under $1 will be doubled to $1. So...
$0.25=$0.50
$0.35=$0.70
$0.55=$1
$0.75=$1
$1=$1
Those are the most common coupon amounts for under $1.

Ridley's Family Market is the store that bought out Albertson's in Orem on 1600 N and State St, and on Center St. and State St. The doubling is only happening at these 2 locations, but can I just say how excited I am! Oh my goodness. I don't know that I'll be able to justify making it up to Family Fresh Foods in Ogden anymore. Maybe I will, because of the coupons that are over $0.50, but it won't be worth quite as much. Still crazy good. I am so excited. So, I will be starting to get the Ridley's deals up as early as I can Tuesday morning (if I can't find a way to get the ad on Monday) so that you all have a chance at them.
Thanks Our Thrifty Ideas

Friday Freebies

Well, my internet connection does seem to actually be working today, so lets get these done before I start having problems.

Starting us off today, courtesy of Vanessa over at Our Thrifty Ideas, we have a free sample of Nexcare bandages. Go here to get your 2 free. Just fill out your info and hit submit.

Now we have a free sample of Suffuse tea here. This one is a tad bit more involved. You’ll need to click on the link on the lower left side of the page. It says “click here to begin”. You will then be filling out a survey, and once you submit that, you will be sent an email that will have your discount code in it. You will need to use that code to get your free tea samples.

And here’s yet another from Vanessa. (Thanks chicka)  This one is a shampoo sample again. (I just love these, as I’ve said so many times) Free Aveeno hair care, available here. Just go sign up, and it will arrive in 4-6 weeks. This one is through CVS, so I'm hoping to get this one, even though I've gotten the Aveeno samples before.

Now we have some more free vitamins. I keep hearing that I need to start taking vitamin D supplements, because its “too dangerous” to try to get it from the sun, (skin cancer and all)  and that if you wear sunscreen all the time, you probably aren’t getting enough D. I’m not worried so much about me, but I’m of the opinion that while I may not as concerned about this type of thing for myself, I’m not going to choose the less healthy way for my daughter. She will get the best I can give her until she is old enough to choose that she would rather do something else. (anyway… off the soap box) Here is a free sample of Vitamin D through NatureMade. Just fill out your info and hit enter.

This one looks kind-of… interesting. But it’s free, so I’ll give it a go.  Here are some free samples of Kraft Sandwich shop mayo. (so this is flavored mayo)  Just fill out your info and click ‘send my samples’. It should take about 4-6 weeks for delivery.

Now we have a freebie from Walmart. I have to admit, I'm starting to like them more. Well, I like their prices, and that they give freebies at least. Anyway, go here to get your free sample of Olay Total Effects. It is limited to 1 per household, so if you've already ordered this from Walmart, you're ou of luck. If you haven't, then it should be here in about 4 weeks.
Here's another skin care sample. I don't know how well it will work or anything like that, but skin care is often one of my biggest expenses, so the freebies are great for me. Just fill out your information and click 'submit'. I don't know how long it will take, but if you don't like the shades available, they will have their complete line available on July 15th.

Well, I ended up with a fair number of them being expired. Maybe I need to post freebies more often. Hmm, we'll see if that happens.  I'm still quite proud of myself for getting any posted. This week has been a bit off for me. Hopefully I'll be right back in it starting on Monday. (Or today or tomorrow if I see anything really really good.) Have fun with these!

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Sorry.

I know today would normally be a freebie day. However, unfortunately my internet connection seems to be struggling, and I am not being able to load any of the pages. I'll be back again on Friday. Sorry everyone.

Walgreens 101

Okay, I know some people have been telling me they aren't quite able to figure out how to get the best deals at some of the stores, and I know that when I first started out, Walgreen's was one of the most difficult stores to figure out. SO... Walgreen's is going to be my first in a series of 'store 101' posts. Hopefully these are helpful.

About Register Rewards
-A Register Reward (RR) is a coupon that prints out with your receipt. You don't have to ask for it, it will automatically print if you fulfilled the requirements listed in the ad.
-You can only get 1 Register Reward per transaction for a certain product. So, if you have 3 coupons for toothpaste, and want to get the RR with it for all of them, you will need to do 3 transactions.
-However, you can buy multiple DIFFERENT items that all have a RR on the same transaction, and you will get all of them. So, you have a toothpaste and a tampon RR you are trying to get, you can buy both in the same transaction, and get both Register Rewards.
-Do not pay for a transaction with a Register Reward from the same item, if you are expecting another RR to print out. If you use a $2 Carefree RR to pay for a Carefree item that offers a RR, the new RR will not print.
-A Register Reward counts as a manufacturer coupon in the count.
-Walgreen's will only allow you to have 1 Mfr coupon per item. So, say for example you have 3 coupons from the Sunday paper, and you want to use a RR as well, you will need to have 4 items. The Register reward counts as a mfr cpn in this instance.
Other Walgreen's Info
-You must always pay sales tax. This doesn't seem like a big issue right off the bat, but it can cause you some interesting issues. Where that becomes a problem is with the super-duper deals where you get things for less than free with coupons and previous RRs. So, say for example, you have a $5 RR. You are buying shampoo, and you have a coupon that makes that item $4.99. YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO USE THE RR! They won't adjust the coupon like most places will. You will have to buy a filler item. Now, they do have things like pencils for 10 cents, so it doesn't have to be a huge deal. Or, I usually find something in their ad that week that is a killer deal without coupons, (and I don't have any coupons for) and I'll use that as my filler, so it is at least something I will use.
-Walgreen's does not have a corporate coupon policy. Managers can decide at any given time whether or not they want to take your coupon.  So, the deals that I post may not work for you at your Walgreen's, if you have a manager who is clueless on how to use coupons. I've not generally had a problem with the Orem Walgreen's if someone needs a new one to go to.
-Most places, it is 'generally understood' (so to speak) that you give the manufacturer coupons to the cashier first, and then the store coupons.  However, if you've been having problems with it beeping at you, Melea, over at Freebies2Deals talked to one of the managers and he said to give the store coupons first. So if you've been beeped too many times, try switching that around.

As an extra note: Your Walgreen's may not restock on Monday or Tuesday, so you go, thinking to get the deals, and the shelves are empty. Ask which day your Walgreen's restocks. It may be that they restock on Wednesday, and so if you wait until mid-week to hit the store, you'll get the best deals, and the best availability.

I hope this helps keep confusion at bay.

Okay, so I personally didn't find tons of deals in the Sunday ads yesterday, however I know that Freebies2Deals and Savvy Sister Shops both did find more. Friday Freebie Roundup

Yay! Time for freebies! And if all of them I found for you work, there are quite a few. So lets get started!
First on the list is a sample of L'Oreal Everpure. This seems to be a new one, because I was able to get it, so you should too. Just go here, and click on 'Get Sample'. You do have to be registered, so go ahead and sign up or sign in when prompted. And then you should get your sample in 8-10 weeks.
Next in line is another shampoo sample! This one is through Walmart, here, so go sign up! Hurry hurry! (No reason why hurrying is necessary, except I know I forget if I don't do things immediately, and I want you all to get freebies) Again you have to register, so sign in or sign up when prompted. However, this is a P&G one as well, so if you've already ordered a Pantene sample through them this quarter, you'll have to wait.  Sorry.

Third in our round up we have a free foot cream sample from Laderma. Go here to sign up, and click on the link on the left hand side that says 'receive free samples'.
This next one seems rather useful to me. Its a free dinner plate from Cafe Marsanne. Now, you may have a matching set of dinner plates, and that is great! But it's a pretty color, and just the right size for a serving plate as well! That is what I'll be using it for, a tray for fruit, veggies, cookies, or brownies.  So go here to sign up for yours.  It should arrive in 2-4 weeks.

Thanks to my friend Vanessa over at Our Thrifty Ideas I have a whole bunch of freebies and coupons from Walmart. So, I'm just going to post the list, and each name will be a link. There is:
Crest Whitestrips (freebie)
Playtex Gentle Glide (freebie)
Schick Xtreme 3 (coupon)
Right Guard (coupon)
Heinz 57 (coupon) after clicking on enjoy extra savings, click on Heinz
Jack Daniels BBQ Sauce (coupon) after clicking on enjoy extra savings, click on Jack Daniels
Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce (coupon) after clicking on enjoy extra savings, click on Lea & Perrins

Woohoo! a free sample of Chex Mix through facebook! Go here to grab yours. Just answer a few questions about your 'food personality'. You'll then be able to fill out your information, and get your sample in 4-8 weeks.
Thanks Freebies2Deals

Okay, so not all of them still worked, but I thought there were still a fair amount. Have fun everyone! Enjoy your weekend!

Sunflower Farmers Market
Sunflower Farmers Market is one of the best stores for produce and meat. They have very high quality products, and the pricing is on par with the other grocery stores (especially the sales) I have had some of the best grapes I've every tasted from there (and they're on sale this week). I also buy oat meal and rice in bulk from there, because even the normal price per pound is the cheapest I've found. I don't get many coupons that are good there, because of the more organic/all natural/health foods that are there, but the prices are pretty good anyway. This is one of my favorite stores.
-Red Seedless grapes $0.88/lb

big, baby, and funny freebies

Time again for my freebie roundup!
Starting us off is a free sunglasses cleaning cloth (or regular glasses really) from marine layer. Go here to pick your color and fill out your information. Then just submit it. It looks like they will contact you within 24 hours by phone or email, so maybe not junk ones here.
Next in line we have a free sample of Palmer's Cocoa Butter Skin Therapy Oil. I'm excited about this one, I love the Palmer's line. Sign in or sign up here to grab yours. It should arrive in 3 to 4 weeks.
Thanks Our Thrifty Ideas.
And here's another shampoo sample! (Do I really need to say how excited I am? ;) I've personally never heard of the Maven brand, but hey, its free, and maybe I'll get lucky and it will be really good, and really cheap? (I can dream right?) I didn't get a confirmation on this one, so I don't know how well it worked, but oh well. Hopefully I'll see one in the next 6-8 weeks.
Okay, this one is really funny. It is a free sample from General Mills; however, it's in Spanish. Lucky for me, I have one of the programs that fills in all of my info for me.
If you don't have one yet, I would highly recommend  RoboForm. That's the one I use, and it remembers up to 10 passwords for FREE plus fills in all your info with one click for these FREE samples. Go here to get RoboForm. Just click the "download FREE trial" link.
So there ya go. I submitted the freebie, and from the little I can read of Spanish, the sample will be coming in a few weeks.
Thanks Our Thrifty Ideas.

Wow, this one is a pretty big freebie! Grand Prix is giving away 3-packs of microfiber 20x20 towels (great for washing your car, or having your hubby or kids wash your car) Submit your info, and it should be here in about 8 weeks.

This next one is definitely for all my mommy readers out there. Walmart is giving away a free sample of their Parent's Choice formula. Don't get offended if you breastfeed, if you don't want it, you don't have to get it. I breastfeed, and I will be getting this sample, and may actually end up using it for date-nights or something. Just fill out your information and it should be here before 4-6 weeks (but it may take that long)

So there ya go everyone! Have fun!

Target edit

Hey everyone, I posted earlier about trying to get the Schick Hydro with the gift card today, rather than last week. They still didn't have any when I went in there today, so I don't know if it would have worked. Sorry all.

Store match-ups

Good morning my fine friends! And a beautiful morning it is too I might add. It is time for my weekly store match-ups. The best (in my opinion) deals from the Sunday ads. So here we go:

Smiths:
I'm actually not going to give you my list for Smith's because it is too long, and it wasn't a Sunday ad. Just reminding you of the double coupon event. I am so very excited for this event, seriously. My husband has been laughing at me all weekend because I've been so giddy excited at the things I can do. Ooh, especially when I found out one of my favorite things about it. They will double DNDs (do not doubles) That's the way it should work anyway. Oh my gosh! I am so excited about that. So, coupons that normally are okay, that I get excited about until I see the DND, I can use!!! Anyway... moving on now.

Walgreens: I personally still have a register reward (RR) from last week that I can use to make these even cheaper. If you did the same transaction order that I did, you will too, but not everyone will, so I don't have them listed.
-Pantene shampoo/conditioner 2/$7
          $2 RR wyb 2
          $1/2 mfr cpn (PG 5/2)
          $3 ea OOP
-Gillette Body wash $4.49
          $4.49 RR
b1g1 mfr cpn (PG 5/2) or
          $4/2 mfr cpn (PG 5/2)
          $2.24-$2.49 ea OOP
If you are going to buy both of these deals, I would suggest doing 2 transactions. Buy the Gillette first, pay the $4.49- $4.98, and get the $4.49 RR. Then in your second transaction, as you give them your $1/2 mfr cpn, also hand them the $4.49 RR that just printed out for you, making your second transaction $1.50
You could spend as little as $6 total for 2 Pantene items, and 2 Gillette items. That's an average of $1.50 each. (Plus you will have a $2 RR that you can use again, so its more like $1 a piece)

Rite Aid:
-Huggies Diapers Jumbo Packs $8.99
         $1 video values cpn
         $3 printable cpn
         $4.99 OOP

Target:
-Market Pantry Snacks $1.50 ea
          b4g1 in-ad special
         $1.20 ea OOP
-Sobe Lifewater 10/$10
there are many, many coupons for this that I had printed before, but I don't know how many are still around.
-Schick Hydro 3 razor $6.99 (normal price)
$5 gift card wyb 2? (see footnote)
         $5 mfr cpn
         $1 target cpn
$0.99 ea OOP (still a fabulous deal without the gift card)
foot note: The gift card deals at Target generally last longer than the week they are advertised. The sign won't be up on the razors, but if you take them to one of the price scanners, it will tell you on the right side (once you scan it) if it has the $5 gift card still available. I will be testing this today and will let you know if it doesn't work, but if you don't hear anything by tomorrow morning assume it's good. However, I may suggest going earlier than tomorrow, because deals sell out.

So there ya go! Have fun. Enjoy the double coupons!

(Friday Freebie Roundup)
So, there doesn't seem to be too many freebies for today, but I'll still post the ones I have for you.
So, we'll start off with Glowelle. It's one of those drink mixes, and it is an antioxidant drink. Their website says its supposed to be 'age defying'. I don't know how well it works. However, it wouldn't hurt to try it, especially since its a free sample.  So, go here to claim yours.
Next in our line, we have some free vegetable seeds from The Dinner Garden. I'm going to be getting these, and if I can figure out a way to, I'll even plant them. (yes, even though I'm in an apartment. I would love fresh veggies). Now, they say that they are apparently backlogged on requests, because they're trying to get funding for the freebies, so who knows how quickly the seeds will come, but it doesn't hurt to try for the freebie anyway.
Now we have a free sample of Hussana facial cream. I'm not quite sure what it does or anything, but I'll give it a go. And if I get the freebie, and it looks like it would be too heavy for my skin, I know plenty of people with dry skin who wouldn't mind trying something new. So anyway... just go here for your sample. You will need to confirm your email, but I still sent it to my junk address. I just then went in there immediately, so I would be able to find the new email.
This next one is my favorite for today. Amazon.com is giving away a free MP3 album of this Native Flutes for Relaxation album. I know, its sometimes hard to find time for relaxation, especially if you have children, but I personally find it worth it. When I actually spend about a half-hour a day just relaxing (some might call it meditation) I don't get my headaches. Before I started doing this, I was getting headaches every day, and they would start almost as soon as I woke up, and get progressively worse throughout the day. So yeah, big fan of relaxation. Just go here to get your free album.

Okay, as I said, not very many, but I did get them for you. Have fun with those. I certainly will.

Freebies, Freebies, all around

Starting us off today we have  a free sample of eb5 anti-aging facial cream. Go here to sign up, and your sample should arrive within 10-14 days. Thanks Money Saving Mom.

These next few are from Walmart, brought to my attention via Our Thrifty Ideas. We have:

These should all arrive in about 4 weeks. Now here are more, not from Walmart.

Okay, next on the list we actually have a free incense set just for taking a 2 minute survey from Veria. Wait for the 3rd picture to come up, and click on the 'take a survery' button.
And again, via Our Thrifty Ideas... A double freebie. Go to Kodak Gallery and sign up. Just for signing up you will get 50 free prints! Plus right now, after signing up, you can get 20 FREE baby announcements! All you have to do is click on the "special offers" tab at the top! I have so many pictures to print so these are always nice. I never pay more than shipping for picture prints because there are so many photo services out there, and they are always offering free prints for some reason or another.
Next in line we have a sample of Nivea body wash, given to us by Ellen Degeneres. Go here to fill out your information.

Ooh, ooh, ooh!! It’s another shampoo sample! I’m sure you all remember how much I love shampoo samples. However, for anyone new out there, or anyone who just forgot… let me reiterate. I personally feel that shampoo/conditioner samples are among one of the finest things in life. First of all, they’re shelf stable (like all shampoo) so they will last for however long I want them to. Second, they let me try out the really expensive brands of shampoo without either waiting for mega sales and coupons (which don’t always happen with all of the brands) or paying big bucks. Third, they are really hard for a baby to get into and dump all over your carpet. (and if they do manage it, it doesn’t make as big of a mess because there isn’t as much product) And last, but not least… traveling! Samples in general are the best for traveling. If I’m going to be in a hotel for a week, there is no way the little container they give me will have enough to last me the week. Well, 7 sample packs take up much less room than a full bottle, (especially since you can shove them anywhere) there is much less chance of leakage because of being squished, or because of altitude change while flying, and if you accidentally leave them in your carry-on, and TSA gets annoyed, its not a full bottle of shampoo that you’re wasting. (I’ve done that one before).  So anyway, now that you know why I like shampoo samples… Head over to Walmart… here to get your free sample of Dove hair care.

And here we have another shampoo/conditioner giveaway. (but I won’t subject you to my reasons for loving these). This is directly from John Frieda, but it is a new one, so you should still be able to get it. Technically this is the sheer blond variety, but in my opinion, shampoo is shampoo, so I’m still going to get it, even though I am very definitely a brunette.

Woohoo! We have yet another shampoo freebie! This one is Aveeno. Go here to answer some questions and then your info to get your sample

Next in line we have a free pen and notepad from Spa Translations. Just go here to sign up for their email (I use my junk email) and they’ll send that out to you. It looks cute to. That’s just my opinion though. There will be a pop-up window, you don't need it, and your sample will be here in about 4 weeks.

And last but not least... Nature’s Bounty is giving away a free pedometer. Just fill out your info and hit submit. This one will take 8 weeks for delivery.

Abbreviations

Okay, so first of in our 101 section...
I use a lot of abbreviations. I forget that I didn't know what all the abbreviations meant starting out. So I don't explain the abbreviations. So... here is a list of the abbreviations I use (that I could think of) and what they mean.
RR- Register Reward-from Walgreens, a coupon for dollars off your next purchase. Some other stores give similar things, but they are called catalinas
cpn- coupon
mfr cpn-manufacturer coupon
RA cpn- specifically... Rite Aid coupon. I use an abbreviation for the store name to differentiate between store coupons and manufacturer coupons
SCR- Single Check Rebate-from Rite Aid. A program they do where you can put in your receipts online and at the end of the month request a single check for all of the rebates you got
SS-Smartsource-coupon packet from Sunday papers, will generally have a date next to it (m/dd) tells you where i found the coupon
RP-Red Plum-coupon packet from Sunday paper (only Daily Herald) though some people can have it delivered in the mail
PG-Proctor & Gamble-coupon packet that comes monthly in the Sunday papers
OOP-out of pocket-the amount you will spend from your budget, though you may get some money back later
WYB- when you buy
b1g1-buy one get one free, unless modified to say something else
MIR-Mail in rebate
I hope these help you out

Couponing 101

Okay, I've had a number of people ask me about various things, so I figured I'd start up a 'couponing 101' section so that you can get answers. If I leave something out, don't hesitate to post your question. I will try to answer it, either in the comments, or I'll do a new post so everyone can see the answer easier.
